Queenstown

Nestled in a valley between Mount Lyell and Mount Owen, Queenstown is the largest town on the West Coast.

Queenstown offers a variety of additional experiences to enhance your stay in the west. Walkers will enjoy short walks such as Horsetail Falls, the Confluence and Spion Kop Lookout, all found in and around the West Coast.

Those needing a break from the strenuous trails might enjoy a stroll through The Galley or West Coast Wilderness Museums. While our walks will get you looking at the world from above, our museums may bring you back to earth as you learn more about some of Queenstown’s rich mining heritage. Alternatively, check out one or two of our pubs and meet the locals; have a yarn and learn more about the region straight from the source.

You might also enjoy a recovery day with West Coast Wilderness Railway. Originally built through the unforgiving rainforest in the late 19th century, original locomotives continue to take visitors through the area today.
